Qualifications:

  • Degree/Education: Masters, or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from Physical Therapy program acceptable to the USAF Surgeon General and accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.
  • Experience: Two years within the past five years in the independent practice of physical therapy, orthopedic setting, working with an adult population.
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physical Therapist in any state or U.S. territory

The duties include but are not limited to the following: 
  • Perform a full range of physical therapist services in accordance with the scope of clinical privileges granted by the MTF to include ordering imaging, referring to appropriate specialties for further assessment, ordering non-narcotic medications/NSAIDS limited to the AF Physical Therapist formulary.
  • Provide appropriate therapeutic procedures and provide a full range of therapy services in support of patient referrals.
  • Evaluate own practice through participation in professional peer review case conferences or other organized means.
  • Must possess the knowledge and experience to: Use computer software applications for drafting documents, data management, and tracking, especially those programs in use by DoD.
  • Use of medical diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illness/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology.
  • Plan and prepare written treatment programs based on an evaluation of the patient.
  • Implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety of musculoskeletal, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
  • Evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommend modification as required.
  • Record treatment, response, and progress in patient’s chart and/or automated systems
  • Provide documented treatment and discharge recommendations to members of the staff in routine, emergency, and special cases as needed.
  • Provide input and attend rehabilitation team meetings, seminars, and quality assurance meetings.
  • Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.

  • Administer treatments involving application of physical agents, using equipment such as a pulsed lavage unit and/or whirlpool bath, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.
  • Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Administer traction to relieve pain, using traction equipment.
  • Coordinate treatment with physician and other staff members to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of the patient’s health care.
  • Contact referring physicians regarding patient care concerns, as required.
  • Instruct, motivate, and assist patients in performing various physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily-living activities, and in use of assistive and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses
  • Administer soft tissue mobilization, applying knowledge of mobilization techniques and body physiology.
  • Administer manual exercises to improve and maintain function.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of professional standards and ethics regarding the delivery of physical therapy services.

The duty section will determine the schedule, which can range between 7am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break per day
