Licensed Professional Counselor

The Licensed Professional Counselor provides comprehensive mental health care to Active Duty Service Members, their families, and federal employees. Responsibilities include conducting behavioral health assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based therapy in individual, group, and family settings. The counselor also manages complex cases, coordinates care, and collaborates with medical staff, leadership, and community resources. Additional duties involve documentation, outcome evaluation, and contributing to staff training and education on behavioral health topics. This role plays a key part in promoting psychological resilience and overall well-being within a diverse population.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree/Education: Master’s Degree or higher, with graduation from amental health counseling program of education and training accredited for Mental Health Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
  • Certifications: Must have passed the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Examination (NCMHCE) or an examination determined by the Director, Defense Health Agency (DHA) as equal in scope, intent, and content to the NCMHCE.
  • Experience: Three years of clinical experience post licensure. Experience must include working with adult populations and providing clinical diagnoses using the DSM-5 or DSM-5-TR. Experience working with Military population is preferred, but not required.
  • Licensure/Registration: Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Identification and Assessment

  • Conduct comprehensive behavioral health evaluations for Active Duty Service Members, family members, and federal employees.
  • Integrate data and apply advanced clinical principles to formulate accurate diagnoses.
  • Counsel patients on primary and secondary behavioral health issues.
  • Make clinical assessments to guide treatment planning and decision-making.
  • Provide consultation to commanders and referring providers, following HIPAA and professional ethics.
  • Use standardized tools to assess and document mental health status.
  • Collect data to evaluate treatment outcomes and meet quality control standards.
  • Apply relevant regulations and collaborate with leadership to identify behavioral health needs.

Treatment and Rehabilitation

  • Manage complex behavioral health cases, serving as primary case manager.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on DSM criteria.
  • Conduct individual, group, and family psychotherapy sessions.
  • Use crisis counseling, motivational interviewing, and strategic intervention techniques.
  • Continuously evaluate and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress.
  • Consult with medical staff, leadership, and community members on treatment and prevention strategies.
  • Build therapeutic relationships with patients from diverse backgrounds and resistance levels.

Case Management and Documentation

  • Coordinate services and resources for complex cases, often involving co-occurring diagnoses.
  • Maintain detailed case records in SOAP format and ensure documentation meets clinical standards.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative evaluations for patient and program assessment.
  • Conduct peer reviews and ensure confidentiality of patient records.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for security clearances and administrative reviews.
  • Utilize data tools for documentation and case management.

Consultation, Training, and Education

  • Design and deliver training for staff, commanders, supervisors, and community members.
  • Provide supervision and training for students, interns, and junior healthcare professionals.
  • Develop training materials and evaluation tools; modify as needed to meet audience needs.
  • Lead both formal and informal educational sessions on behavioral health topics.
  • Ensure personal compliance with licensure and certification requirements.

WORK HOURS: Monday through Friday between the hours of 0730 and 1630.
