Monday through Friday only…no weekends or holidays, between the hours of 0500 and 1800. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an 8.5-to-9-hour period, to include an uncompensated 30-minute lunch break.
Qualifications:
Degree: Certificate.
Education: Graduate from an academic course of phlebotomy that includes 120 didactic hours (or required by state
law).
Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Certification: Certification/registration as determined by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or AMT.
Experience:
- Completed 1040 hours and experience as a Phlebotomy Technician for twelve (12) within the preceding thirty-six (36) months. Clinical rotations during training is considered valid experience hours. Must have performed at least 100 successful venipuncture and 10 successful skin punctures.
- Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attesting to the HCW’s clinical skills. At least one (1) letter must be from a physician or supervisor who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to clinical skills in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician or nurse who has personal knowledge of the HCW’s patient care skills in a similar clinical environment.
Reference letters shall attest to the health care worker’s communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well
as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and must include name, title, phone number, date
of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference. - Board Certification: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or AMT.
Duties:
- Collect blood samples from patients and perform various Point of Care Testing (POCT).
- Practice proper patient identification.
- Correctly label vials with patient names and dates.
- Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient.
- Transport all specimen samples to the appropriate laboratory sections.
- Centrifuge blood samples.
- Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status.
- Practice Infection Control standards always when working with patients and Equipment.
- Practice OSHA and Personal Protective Equipment Standards.
- Complete extensive standardized laboratory section training, point of care equipment training and demonstrate competency to perform each job function and commit to perform only those tasks for which documented training has been completed.
- Provide instructions and training as requested following designation of Preceptor/instructor status.
